City Continues Outreach for Housing Element Update

Post Date:May 21, 2021 3:23 PM

News Release Housing Element Update MayThe City of West Hollywood invites community members to participate in the Housing Element Update. The Housing Element is a policy guide that provides an indication of the need for housing in the community — particularly the availability, affordability, and adequacy of housing — and serves as a strategy to address housing needs across the economic and social spectrum. Cities and counties are required by law to update their housing elements every eight years.

Interested stakeholders may participate by:

  • Submitting feedback in the second Housing Element survey, which will be open from May 25 through June 8, 2021. The Housing Element Survey, once opened, will be accessible at www.weho.org/housingelement. The survey will gather community feedback about housing preferences and needs, and it will review the key concepts that will guide the 2021-2029 Housing Element Update including preventing displacement, providing access to opportunity, increasing production of housing, homelessness, the built environment, and providing housing opportunities for all West Hollywood residents.
  • Learning about and exchanging ideas aimed to prioritize and elevate awareness of what should be considered relevant issues in the final written scope of the Housing Element in a Virtual Scoping Meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. (A recording of the May 11, 2021 scoping meeting is available on the City of West Hollywood’s YouTube channel at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8wXe_w3JNg.) Those who are interested in participating on May 25 can register and join via the Zoom platform at: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_FLtYfmiyRmSOk9jE1kzDUA.
  • Registering for the virtual Housing Element Community Workshop where the City will provide a general update, which will include a review of community outreach and comments received to date and an overview of the sites inventory process and draft concepts. The presentation will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 via the Zoom platform: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_3B57frVQSKSPdNS46kZXsg
  • Watching and participating in the City of West Hollywood City Council Meeting on Monday, August 16, 2021, where the Draft Housing Element update is expected to be presented.

The City of West Hollywood encourages community members to participate in the survey and to take part in this vital process. During the upcoming months, there will be a range of outreach and public engagement activities including community-wide workshops and public hearings at meetings of the City’s Planning Commission and City Council. The Housing Element Update for the 6th Cycle will cover the eight-year planning period from 2021-2029 and is currently underway and is expected to be finalized in early 2022.
