Stepping Stones explores the stories of LGBTQ+ seniors through the lens of artists from various disciplines and of different generations. In its second year, the program is directed by media and theater artist Mark Salyer and features pieces developed over the course of six weeks. 

Our 2023 pieces include Lucky, a short film about a 17 year old girl who falls in love with a trans man in 1951 Brooklyn and longs to be ride away with her knight in shining armor. The piece pairs award-winning actress and filmmaker Conner Wharton with 91 year old Vicki Pacifico, an actress and storyteller who created and performed a one person show at the age of 87. In Cremains, author Ari Ashkenazi tells the story of his lover's memorial gone awry with beautiful illustrations and animation by award-winning artist Joe Castillon. The images of Ari's story are gorgeously brought to graphic life by Joe's images.
