Planning and Preparedness is Key

  • Have a safe place to take tour pets: Do your research ahead of time
  • American Red Cross disaster shelters cannot accept pets
  • Ask a friend or family member to temporarily care for your pets
  • Contact hotels/motels to find a pet friendly location
Assemble a Pet Disaster Supplies Kit 
  • Food, water, medications, leash, bowl, etc.
  • Pet carrier or collapsible cage
  • Store in an easily portable container or backpack
  • Consider having a vet insert an identification chip into your pet

  • Keep your pet hydrated
  • Never leave your pet in a hot car
  • Monitor outside play
  • Learn to recognize heat stroke and how to help your pet cool down
  • Always contact your vet with any concerns

  • Chocolate is not good for pets – give your pet healthy treats
  • Watch what your pet eats – candy wrappers can get stuck in your pet’s digestive system
  • Watch those wagging tails so as not to knock over lit candles
