National Arts and Humanities Month

nahmThe City of West Hollywood is prepared to celebrate National Arts and Humanities Month with a variety of events scheduled to take place in October. The City Council will recognize the celebration with a proclamation to be presented at its October 3rd council meeting. The following is a list of arts and culture events in the month of October.

What’s Wrong With Angry?
When: September 9, 2011 through October 29, 2011
Location: Celebration Theatre; Website: www.celebrationtheatre.com  
Description: A play written at a time in British history when Legislation and Section 28 prohibited schools and local authorities from depicting homosexual relationships as an acceptable view of family life.

Garbo’s Cuban Lover
When: September 24, 2011 through October 31, 2011; Website: www.machatheatre.org  
Location: MACHA Theatre/Films
Description: A suspenseful drama which explores the glamorous lives of Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich.

MAK Center
Sympathetic Seeing: Esther McCoy and the Heart of American Modernist Architecture and Design; www.makcenter.org

State of the Arts in West Hollywood

Description: The City of West Hollywood’s Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission will present a State of the Arts staff report for the Council meeting agenda.

ACAC Reception for Library Artists

Description: The City of West Hollywood’s Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission will host a discussion and reception for the West Hollywood Library artists.

Capturing the Beauty of the Human Body Gallery Opening

Location: Advocate & Gochis Gallery at the Village at the Ed Gould Plaza
Description: The Center's Cultural Arts & Education Department will host a free Gallery Opening Reception that will feature the aspiring artists who participated in the Life Drawing Workshop instructed by artist Ron Anderegg.

Baby Daddy: Written and performed By Alec Mapa
