The Society for the Activation of Social Space through Art and Sound (SASSAS) in partnership with the City of West Hollywood presents soundSpark, a children's concert series at the West Hollywood Public Library, taking place on the first Saturday of every month from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at West Hollywood Public Library Children’s Theatre, located at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd., West Hollywood, CA 90069 (two hours free parking with validation). This series has been presented with funding through the City of West Hollywood since October 2013.

soundSpark builds on SASSAS' commitment to expanding audiences for experimental art and sound in Greater Los Angeles. These free, hour-long performances will take place in the Children's Theatre and feature emerging experimental musicians. The theater, inspired by Michelangelo’s design for the Laurentian Library, provides a fanciful backdrop for introducing children to experimental music. This monthly series will feature acoustic concerts by emerging artists performing solo and in duets. Concerts may be entirely instrumental or they may incorporate storytelling or video. The intimate scale of the Children's Theater encourages an active listening environment, enabling children to interact with the musicians as well as join them in the performance.

About SASSAS

The Society for the Activation of Social Space through Art and Sound (SASSAS) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that serves as a catalyst for the creation, presentation and recognition of experimental art and sound practices in the Greater Los Angeles area. Inspired by the resonance that occurs when experimental music is combined with unconventional performance environments, SASSAS seeks to foster new collaborations and improvisation to spark further exploration in the field. The organization is supported in part through grants from the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, the Good Works Foundation, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission, Mike Kelley Foundation for the Arts, and the West Hollywood Arts and Cultural Affairs Commission.
